Noise Figure Test Set
The Sandersl 5440C Noise Figure Test Set is a lightweight, compact, portable instrument capable of measuring noise figure from 2 to 32 dB over a range of 10 KHz to 40 GHz. The 5440C can operate from either the IF output or video/audio output of the system under test. A built-in IF preselector excludes spurious signals which are often present at the IF output of a system. The preselector is continuously variable and
accepts IF signals From 10 MHz to 200 MHz. The IF input is under AGC control which assures accurate readings as the system under test is tuned across its band.
The noise source can be placed up to 300 feet from the test set, permitting the entire system (antenna lines, pre-amps, TWTs,
couplers, rotary joints and interconnecting lines) to be included in the noise figure. The noise source can be connected before or after a suspect unit or cable to quickly isolate defective components in tile front end chain. The noise source can be permanently mounted in the system using coaxial switches or directional couplers.
