Amplifiers

These active devices increase the amplitude of an input signal to a desired output level. In many applications an amplifier is needed for research, development, and testing. The main characteristics of an amplifier to take into consideration are frequency range, power, impedance, linearity, class, and the technology they were constructed with.

There are variations in how amplifiers are built and classified. A few of these are traveling wave tube amplifiers (TWTA’s) and solid state amplifiers, which are commonly used in EMC testing. Essentially an amplifier is used to simulate interference signals with devices to ensure they will operate correctly in real world conditions. Radiated immunity testing does exactly that, by generating an Electric Field (V/m) and transmitting it to a device under test (DUT).
