This year, the EMC Symposium Exhibition took place at the Shaw Centre, Ottawa, ON Canada.
Advanced Test Equipment Rentals (ATEC) was a featured exhibitor at the symposium, sponsoring the shuttle buses to the welcome reception and hotel room keys, and provided all the test equipment for product demos.
Sponsored by the IEEE EMC Society, the symposium provided knowledge and tools to help engineers address electromagnetic environmental effects and electromagnetic compatibility. The IEEE EMC Society is the world’s largest organization dedicated to the development and distribution of information, tools and techniques for reducing electromagnetic interference.

The society's field of interest includes standards, measurement techniques and test procedures, instrumentation, equipment and systems characteristics, interference control techniques and components, education, computational analysis, and spectrum management, along with scientific, technical, industrial, and professional activities.
The Keynote speech was presented by Dr. Robert Scully, Lead Engineer from NASA Johnson Space Center. Dr. Scully discussed, Electronic Compatibility in 2016 and Beyond: What Is It and Why Do We Care?
Some of what Dr. Scully shared, "Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) has come a long way from the days when radio equipment was installed in military aircraft with exposed antenna leads and the need to control the undesirable effects of such an arrangement was recognized. Topics today are far greater in scope than a handful of individual and rather specialized or unique circumstances.
The need for co-existence and interoperability of multiple systems competing for the same spectrum and the growing awareness of both unintentional and intentional electromagnetic interference are driving hardware, software and system designers to rethink how electromagnetic compatibility plays a central and pivotal role in successful products ranging from cell phones to smart refrigerators to automobiles to commercial and military aerospace platforms."
Colleagues at the event were able to see new products, share their insights, ask questions and learn from experts and innovators in the engineering field. Mike Violette, EMC 2016 Marketing Co-Chair shared, "The 2016 Ottawa event was a blast and we broke out in style with a packed technical program, a sold-out exhibit hall and live entertainment, featuring a few tunes from General Chair, Kris Hatashita."
