From improved 5G capabilities to new scripts for the SignalShark, Narda announced a variety of exciting product updates. Between the even more reliable EMF measurements with the SRM-3006 and long-requested variable alarm thresholds for the RadMan 2XT, Narda STS has made updates to improve many of their products.

The SRM-3006 will soon have a firmware option available.

SRM-3006: 5G - A New Option for Code Selective Measurements

SRM-3006: Press release: 5G NR EMF Measurements

Good news for all users of the Selective Radiation Meter SRM-3006 from Narda Safety Test Solutions

The market and technology leader in EMF test equipment now offers an all-round carefree package for 5G NR EMF measurements. Looking at the new requirements for 5G NR, mobile network operators, organizations, private measurement service providers, and public authorities can also use their tried and tested 9 kHz to 6 GHz SRM-3006 for code-selective measurements of 5G signals and thus reliably extrapolate to maximum power levels.

There will be a newly developed downconverter antenna for the upper-frequency range FR2 (> 24 GHz). Narda’s SRM-3006, therefore, gives you an all-round carefree package which you can use just as simply and reliably as before to fulfill your 3G, 4G, and 5G signal measurement tasks.

RadMan 2XT with Variable Alarm Thresholds

The RadMan 2 also gets an update with variable alarm thresholds.

An update for the RadMan 2-TS is now available

There have been frequent requests for variable alarm thresholds for the RadMan 2. For example, in some locations, the user needs to be warned as soon as possible if there is an active radiation source rather than when the limit value is exceeded. Or if the warning device is to be used to cover both the occupational limit values and the general public values, which are lower by a factor of 5.

Narda can cover these situations precisely with three new device variants. The alarm thresholds of these devices can be varied in the range from 10% to 310% in 5% steps using the PC software. These new devices correspond to the existing RadMan 2XT versions in every other respect. There are now three further RadMan 2XT versions for customers requiring variable alarm thresholds:

Narda recommends the RadMan 2 variants without variable alarm thresholds for all customers who want to be certain that the alarm thresholds have not been altered either knowingly or unknowingly. The equipment is also ideal for users who require a warning device that will always use the same values to reliably warn the user that limit values have been exceeded.

Customers can now choose between fixed or variable alarm thresholds when placing an order. It is not possible to add this feature later. A datasheet for the RadMan 2XT is available here that's updated with the new variable alarm thresholds.

The alarm thresholds can be changed using the Configuration menu of the PC software. This required a minor change that made the update necessary. Dowload the updated software here on Narda's website.

EFC-400: Version 2021 is Available for Immediate Delivery

The update is available at 2020 prices until December 31, 2020

The new 2021 version of the Simulation Software EFC-400 is available right now and includes some additional features. You can download a flyer with an overview of these new features here.

Expansion of the EFC-400 libraries is a simple way to include new applications along with the classic uses for antennas and high voltage equipment:

SignalShark: What’s New

SignalShark Real Time Outdoor Remote Analyzer – now for outdoor applications

The outdoor version of the remote-controlled real time analyzer for detection, analysis, and localization of RF signals between 8 kHz and 8 GHz is now available for rent. It can be installed at a fixed location or moved if required. The device supports automatic direction finding and TDOA. The real time analyzer solves complex test and analysis tasks reliably and quickly with its outstanding RF performance.

Additional third-party applications can also be run on the Windows 10-based device with its Intel Quad-Core processor.

The "SignalShark 3330 Outdoor Unit" series is characterized by its robust weatherproof aluminum diecast casing giving IP65 protection, which also serves as a heatsink. Its compact size means that the receiver can be fitted close to the antennas, keeping the antenna cables short with high sensitivity.

The Outdoor Unit is available in two versions:

  1. SignalShark 3330/101 - A cable connection to the network is available and the Outdoor Remote Unit has a new capability that is particularly useful in these situations: Power Over Ethernet (PoE). This means that the power supply is drawn through the Ethernet data communication cable. This reduces the number of connection cables that need to be laid to a minimum. The PoE++ variant is used, which provides enough reserves to provide power to additional components within the casing.
  2. SignalShark 3330/102 - Comes ready with a waterproof DC connection for the power supply and an integrated LTE modem. Ideal for all installations where there is no fixed network connection by cable.

Classify, demodulate and decode digital signals with the SignalShark

Combined with the Procitec go2MONITOR software, the SignalShark forms a compact, powerful monitoring solution. It enables detection, classification, decoding, and recording of complete wireless scenarios in the RF, VHF, UHF, and SAT frequency bands. This compact monitoring solution is now available to customers within the EU as a bundle directly from Narda. This bundle offers a price saving compared to purchasing the components individually.

SignalShark: New scripts for additional applications

Scripts are small, Python-based remote control programs that you can use to extend and personalize the capabilities of the SignalShark. They can be launched directly on the instrument from the SignalShark application using the script launcher (the SignalShark controls itself). They only require the “SCPI” remote control option. Scripts are open source, so you can modify them as needed.

The best thing is, all scripts published so far are free of charge!

The SignalShark IQ recorder script allows for WAV format recording on devices like the SignalShark 3310.

The “iqrecorder” script package comprises several separate script files. It enables the recording of IQ data in the WAV format.

Basic settings can be made in a dialog window before starting the recording.

For the recording itself, you can set the parameters Ftune and CBW via a Level Meter view. You can also set the Ftune parameter via the Peak Table view and specify a pre-set trigger threshold. Click here to download the SignalShark "iqrecorder" script package from Narda's website.

SignalShark CSV conversion scripts

The “convert spectrum” or “convertsgram” (spectrogram) scripts enable conversion of the internal HDF5 memory format to CSV files for further processing in the usual MS Office software applications.

Application Note: From sweep time to measurement time to interference search on TDD systems such as 4G / LTE and 5G

If you were taught to use an analog spectrum analyzer and you now want to use a real-time analyzer like the Narda SignalShark, you will have to come to grips with a few new terms. You will however have a device in your hands that will produce result data at a rate that leaves analog spectrum analyzers standing. When used properly, the SignalShark provides new concepts for solving measurement tasks faster and more efficiently than ever before.

The Application Note describes what is behind the terms sweep time, measurement time, detectors, traces, and so on, and how they are correctly applied. By the end of the Application Note, you should easily be able to trim the SignalShark so that it only shows results in the uplink of 4G and 5G TDD networks, for example, where you can track down interference without disturbance from the downlink.
