Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges

Ultrasonic thickness gauges measure the thickness of a material. Ultrasonic gauges are the most common thickness gauge rental unit for material testing applications because they can quickly perform measurements from one side of a metal, glass, plastic, ceramic, rubber, paint, concrete or fiberglass surface. Measurements are performed by generating an ultrasonic pulse that travels through the material under test and reflects back into the gauge’s transducer, which translates the sound into data. Each type of material will transmit sound waves at different speeds, meaning that these gauges need to be calibrated to the speed sound moves through the type of material under test.

Thickness measurements are commonly performed as part of routine maintenance to determine the level of corrosion or thinning on pipes, tanks, pressure vessels and other structural parts vulnerable to corrosion that is invisible on the outside. Some gauges, like concrete thickness gauges, are rented specifically for certain tests. ATEC offers test solutions for the following thickness measurements:

  • Concrete
  • Coating
  • Paint
  • Metal
  • Dry Film
  • Material Thickness
  • Magnetic
  • Hall Effect
  • Eddy Current
ATEC offers ultrasonic thickness gauge rentals for prodcuts from leading manufacturers like Olympus, Dakota and Danatronics. Contact ATEC and an account manager will guide you to the correct tool for your testing requirements.
