Regenerative AC loads include many of the same features as programmable loads but with the additional capability of returning most of the absorbed energy to the power grid rather than dissipating it as heat. These advanced devices have reduced electricity consumption and less need for cooling, making them ideal for high-capacity AC testing, such as for EV development.

ATEC has regenerative AC electronic loads available for rent now from manufacturers including Pacific Power, Chroma, and NH Research. ISO 17025 calibration is also available on certain models.
