A solar array simulator is a programmable DC source that mimics the energy and power generated throughout daily solar cycles. Simulating a solar array is practical for applications involving EUTs being powered by the sun, as knowing the results of a solar array cycling test benefits product development.
Solar array simulators come in various form factor and power capabilities, most often ranging up to 1500V and current that is paralleable up to 1000A and beyond. They are also programmable for setting the I-V curve changing throughout the day. A primary application this involves is for testing PV inverters that convert DC power generated from solar panels into AC power that can be trasmitted via the grid.
