Stability chambers establish controlled temperature and humidity environments in which one can test and provide storage for samples, products and devices. Most chambers operate over temperatures ranging from -40°C to 80°C and humidity levels from 5% to 95% RH. A stability chamber allows test engineers to simulate a product’s shelf life, determine whether it adheres to its expiration date, study the product’s response to accelerated aging and more. Stability chambers are often required for medical, food technology, pharmaceutical, life science and research applications.
Some stability chambers are designed specifically to fulfill industry standards; an FDA/ICH stability chamber, for example, meets the standards of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the International Conference on Harmonization of Technical Requirements for Registration of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH). Others may have NIST-traceable sensors to meet the requirements of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). ICH Q1A case guidelines apply to pharmaceutical testing for stability, and some chambers involved in research comply with the National Science Foundation (NSF).
